9/4/2010 Egypt (AINA) Copts Protest Persecution in Egypt Ahead of Mubarak's DC Visit.
The arrival of Egypt’s President Mubarak caused quite a stir amidst Washington D.C.’s Coptic Christian population. The American Copt’s finally had a chance to beg President Mubarak to stop persecuting Christians in Egypt. According to sources, more than 1500 assaults on Egyptian Copts have occurred under Mubarak’s rule. Unfortunately, victims of these assaults have yet to be compensated or seen any type of justice meted out to their persecutors. Thus, on September 2, 2010, Coptic Christians staged a peaceful rally outside the White House protesting the persecution of Egyptian Copts.
Pray that President Mubarak puts an immediate halt to the persecution of Christians in Egypt.
Pray that Christians in Egypt will be a shining light for Jesus to their Muslim neighbors.
Pray that Egypt will go back to being a Christian nation—as it was until Islam invaded in the 7th century.
9/6/2010 Indonesia (JakartaPost) Bogor Church Congregation Defies Threats.
On August 27, 2010 Bogor officers placed an indefinite seal on the Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) in Bogor, West Java. This is the second time that the “unfinished” house of worship has been closed due to the demands of angry, Indonesian residents. Yet, the congregation of the Indonesian Christian Church has not let a “little thing” like a padlock stop them from worshipping the Lord. On the contrary, at least 120 members of the faithful church held their Sunday service on plastic stools in front of their house of worship. “No one can revoke our constitutional right to worship,” said Jayadi Damanik.
Pray that the ban on the Indonesian Christian Church is lifted.
Pray that the residents who demanded that the Indonesian Christian Church be closed, recant their statement.
Pray that the Indonesian government starts protecting the rights of its Christian citizens.
9/7/2010 Vietnam (AsiaNews) Renewal of the Vietnamese Church.
When Communists took over Vietnam, the ideas of freedom of religion and separation of church and state became null and void. Congregations were divided into small groups, incidences of Christian persecution began to rise, and random acts of violence became “not so random.” However, things are beginning to change! Vietnam’s Catholic Church is growing and evangelism is at an all-time high. Although many of these church members continue to be persecuted, they refuse to stop spreading the Gospel and are firm in their desire to fulfill the Great Commission.
Pray that persecution of Vietnamese Christians comes to a swift halt.
Pray that the Vietnamese government will start adhering to the ideology of “freedom of religion.
9/6/2010 Iraq (OneNewsNow) Iraqi Christians- Even Harder Times Ahead.
President Obama’s decision to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq has created “unintended consequences” for Iraqi Christians. Without the presence of American soldiers, radical Muslims have taken it upon themselves to ramp up their persecution of Iraq’s Christian citizens. How will these Iraqi Christians survive in a Muslim country that is rife with anarchy and guerilla warfare? Some sources believe that the extinction of Christians in Iraq is imminent.
Pray for the safety of Iraqi Christians as they struggle to live amidst their hostile neighbors.
Pray that President Obama will allow peacekeeping troops to stay in Iraq.
Pray that the Lord will place a hedge of protection around Iraq’s Christian citizens.
9/8/2010 Somalia (CDN) Somali Christian Killed, Four Children Kidnapped.
On July 21, 2010, Somali Muslims barged into Osman Abdullah Fataho’s house and killed him—mercilessly murdered him in front of his wife and children. Fataho’s family was then abducted, but later released on the condition that his children train to be Somali soldiers. But why? Why would anyone want to kill Osman Abdullah Fataho. According to sources, it was because Fataho was an Islamic convert to Christianity. This incident has spread fear into the hearts of Somali Christians.
Pray that the Lord will give Somalia’s Christians a sense of peace and joy.
Pray that Fataho’s young children will not have to train to be Somali soldiers.
Pray for Osman Abdullah Fataho’s family as they mourn the death of their loved ones.
9/8/2010 Egypt (AINA) Christian Copts Living as Slaves to Muslims in Egyptian Village.
Many members of Azeem village in Egypt are treated like second-class citizens, simply because they are Christian. In fact, a large amount of these faithful believers could be considered slaves instead of employees. It is not rare to see Christians in Azeem village being flogged by their Muslim employers or working from sunup to sundown without pay. In one extreme case, a 14-year-old, Christian boy was tied to a pole and mercilessly beaten. In the past these persecuted Christians refused to report their employers for fear of retribution. However, last week, a group of at least 50 Christians came forward and exposed the “slavery-related” practices that were occurring in Azeem village.
Pray that Muslim hearts will be softened in Azeem village.
Pray tthat Christians in Azeem village will not falter from their faith in the midst of persecution.
Pray that the Egyptian government will put a stop to “slavery-related” practices in Azeem village.
Prayer Request for Imprisoned Moroccan Christian
Dear Church,
ICC has learned that a Moroccan Christian named Jamaa Ait Bakrim has been imprisoned for his faith. Jamaa has been serving five years in the largest prison in Morocco for trumped up charges. Until now his case has largely been hidden from outside media.
In order to advocate for Jamaa and other Christian prisoners, ICC is launching a prisoner focus page where we can post more details and pictures. See the new site at: www.persecution.org/prisonerfocus/
Jamaa became a Christian in the 1990's while travelling through Europe. When he returned to Morocco he was ostracized and later imprisoned for refusing to stop talking about his faith. He served over a year in prison. In 2005 he was again tried and found guilty of "proseytization." The judge condemned Jamaa to 15 years in prison, stating, “the fact that Jamaa denies accusations of proselytization is inconsistent with the confession during which he proclaimed he was a son of Christ and he wanted Moroccans to become Christians…” Jamaa is currently serving out this sentence, and is located in Prison Centrale of Kenitra, Morocco.
Please pray:
- That Jamaa is released. His existence has been hidden from the outside world and we must hold him up and pray for his courage.
- That the hearts of Moroccan leaders change toward Christians, and they stop the persecution that has led to the recent expulsion of 100 Christian foreigners.
- For the Moroccan church to withstand the increasing pressure from the government and stand out as an example of endurance and grace.
Thank you & Please remember those in PRISON all over this world who are suffering for accepting Christ as their Lord & saviour!
God bless you all!
